A sophisticated state of affairs! Anna Kendrick dazzles in a ladylike black gown at Kennedy Center Honors in Washington DC

She'll perform for President Obama next week during TNT's Christmas in Washington special.

But Anna Kendrick arrived early to the Nation's Capital to attend the Kennedy Center Honors at the US Department of State Saturday.

The Oscar-nominated 28-year-old dazzled the politically-minded crowd in a ladylike black gown featuring sheer waist panels.

The Pitch Perfect starlet styled her brunette locks into an elegant updo and accessorised the LBD with a black clutch and green-stoned jewelery.

Anna was joined on the red carpet by publicist Alexander Martinetti, who later posted an Instagram of the pair 'ballin' at the formal dinner.

Downton Abbey's favourite guest star Shirley MacLaine turned up as well wearing a gold-flecked coat over a black pantsuit.

The 79-year-old Oscar winner was honored alongside pop star Billy Joel, musician Carlos Santana, composer Herbie Hancock, and opera singer Martina Arroyo.

According to Broadway World, Kendrick will join host Hugh Jackman, Sheryl Crow, and the Backstreet Boys for the TNT holiday special airing December 20.

Her song Cups (When I'm Gone) from The Pitch Perfect soundtrack became a Top 10 Billboard hit earlier this year.
Next month, the End of Watch actress will head to Utah for the Sundance Film Festival where two of her films will premiere.

Anna stars opposite Lena Dunham and Melanie Lynskey in Joe Swanberg's family dramedy Happy Christmas.

Kendrick also stars alongside Aubrey Plaza, Alia Shawkat, and Dane DeHaan in the rom-zom-com Life After Beth.

The Twilight funnywoman steps into Cinderella's glass slippers for her role in Rob Marshall's big-screen version of Into the Woods.

The Broadway musical - due out Christmas 2014 - intersectsseveral famed fairytales and also features Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp.
